The Last Day: >> all good things must come to an end
A typical morning start had us headed down to the bridge with a mission: catch a meal, or go hungry, or even worse, have to go home. Ugghh.
Well, it was a bit of work (not really, more a labor of love, heh, heh), but a man just has to do what a man has to do. It took a bit of patience to wait out the occupants of the spot I had in mind, but it was only a question of time. At the appointed hour, we moved in and began collecting our due. It could have been very ugly, because it really was a shame how willing the trout were in accomodating us. However, we only needed enough for a couple of meals and so...
In the best tradition of trout fisherman everywhere, and would-be authors, I found it necessary to record our minor triumph (besides, it WAS a pretty mess of trout). It is not always desirable, and often not possible, to release everything one catches. And one thing that can always be counted on, whenever it falls to my lot in life to be so blessed, I will certainly make sure that the Lord's bounty is not wasted. These gifts actually ended up on the table the following night, and my wife was fortunate enough to share in our fortune.
Well, it is no strange thing for a good fisherman to
get a little wet in the pursuit of important things,
and while it does not prey on one's mind at the time,
eventually it becomes desirable to attend to the more
hum-drum chores, if for no other reason than it
provides a change of pace. Not to mention
clothes...And, as the saying goes, it turned out that
we had almost as much fun as we could stand, and so
it was that we ended up agreeing not to stay another
day. Heading back to camp, we began thinking about a
near-perfect trio of days in a place that would not
be soon forgotten. And we knew it would not be too
long before that feeling would come over us once
more, and we would begin planning a return visit. We
know, as do a few other fortunate souls, that the
call of the river is never still...
And so, until next time, tight lines whether or not your creels become heavy...
